Inspiration needs a route to the product

A strong photograph can still leave the shopper searching.

A styled room, complete outfit, or finished setup explains how products work together. The gap appears one moment later: which item is which, and where can the shopper find it?

HBN: Lookbook keeps that answer inside the photograph. Add images from Shopify Files or upload new ones, tag the products that are genuinely visible, and place a numbered marker over each item. A shopper can open a responsive product preview and continue to the product page without decoding a caption or searching the catalog.

Tag for recognition, not for maximum coverage.

A marker earns its place when a shopper can connect it to a visible object. Products that are only implied by the scene belong in the surrounding page, not crowded onto the image.

Build one coherent story before building a library

Begin with a single use case: a seasonal outfit, a room, a routine, or a collection in context. Order the photos so they add information rather than repeat the same composition. New lookbooks start disabled, so the work can stay private until the photos, tags, and theme placement are ready.

Place product markers where the photograph can carry them

Add products through Shopify's product picker, then click or drag each marker into place in the live photo preview. Arrow-key controls support precise positioning, while per-photo marker size, number, fill, and outline colors help the markers remain legible against a particular image.

The job is not to cover every product in the shot. A handful of unmistakable markers usually creates a clearer path than a dense map of overlapping targets. If an image is replaced, the product tags remain, so their positions should be checked again before saving.

Choose a layout for the photographs you actually have

Grid is predictable when images share a similar shape. Masonry keeps mixed portrait and landscape photographs closer to their natural proportions. Carousel gives each image more attention in a compact horizontal sequence, but its next item must be discoverable by touch as well as pointer.

The theme block controls desktop and mobile columns, photo spacing, borders, corner radius, title treatment, and a maximum height for tall images. Those controls are useful for fitting the lookbook to the theme; they should not be used to force unlike photographs into a decorative pattern that is difficult to browse.

Let the same product tags support the next discovery

Product tags can do more than link away from a lookbook. On Pro, Related Looks can place matching tagged photos on a product template, so a shopper viewing one item can see how it appeared in a complete scene. The block can use every enabled lookbook or a selected set and stays hidden when the current product has no matching photos.

Direct shopping is also optional. Quick Add lets shoppers choose an eligible variant from the product preview, while Shop the Look opens a buying panel for the tagged products in one photo. Products that need Shopify's full purchase form continue to their product page.

Free or Pro?

One focused story is enough to prove the format.

Free covers a complete small lookbook. Pro becomes useful when the store needs a larger editorial system or wants shopping and discovery to continue beyond the product link.

The app is not publicly available yet. Current plan information will be published on its Shopify App Store listing at launch.

Free — one complete lookbook

Publish one lookbook with up to six photos and twelve product tags. Use Grid, Masonry, or Carousel, show responsive product previews and links, place the same lookbook in multiple theme locations, and keep the storefront free of app watermarks.

This fits a store that wants one stable campaign, collection story, room, or outfit guide without direct shopping controls.

Pro — connected lookbook discovery

Remove the Free plan caps, organize multiple enabled lookbooks with category navigation, add Quick Add or Shop the Look, and surface matching photos on product pages with Related Looks.

Pro includes up to a 7-day trial, subject to Shopify eligibility. Upgrade when the number of stories or the path to purchase has become the operational constraint.

Give each photograph a clear route into the catalog.

HBN: Lookbook will be available on the Shopify App Store soon.
